Tense atmosphere
expectations from the crowd
the referee blows his whistle
the fans cheering out loud
Encouraging the players to create
unforgetable moments of magnificent play
leading to euphoria
when the ball goes all the way
Into the net, and satisfaction is there
the fans exploding into delight
but in that same moment
opposite fans with faces not exactly bright
Disappointment and frustration
but still not giving up the game
and when the equalizer comes
the goalscorers name
Is on everyones lips
but the noise is brutally gone
just one minute from time
their team losing 2 – 1
So when the referee blows the final whistle
light on one side
darkness on the other
football is like the tide
Ups and downs, from victory to loss
that’s why football appeals to the heart
it is surely a game
of despair, delight, passion and art
